After participating in several readathons for the past couple of months, I’m going to be using this upcoming month for a bit of a break and reset. I know I always read a lot during these reading challenges, especially for the ones I did in August and the ones I’m currently doing now in October, but I also just want to simply pick up a book without feeling pressured to have finished it all in two to three days or whenever the next prompt is released. In fact, the only reading challenges I will be doing in November have pretty laissez-faire structures to how they work, which I think would be the right fit for me at this point.
My main focus for my reading this November (besides continuing my work as a CYBILS Award judge in the Graphic Novels category) is to read the books I already have on my physical and digital shelves (including my ARCs). With the number of books on my shelves that need to be read, I feel like focusing an entire month on this task without worrying about whether or not they would fit a particular reading challenge or readathon to be quite refreshing.
With that being said, here’s a look into some of the books I hope to read next month.
November 2024 TBR
A Tempest of Tea by Hafsah Faizal
While spooky season may be over, I still feel like A Tempest of Tea would be a fall book. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this book since it came out in February and I’ve had this book since July, so I figured that I should read it this month since we’re working on reading my physical and digital shelves.
Dreadful by Caitlin Rozakis
Since I finished Apprentice to the Villain, I now have to wait another year for the next installment to come out. Fortunately, I have a book I think could tie me over for a little bit.
When I first heard about this book and read through the description, it definitely gave off the same kind of vibes I got from the Assistant to the Villain series. It sounds super fun and I’m pretty excited to dive into this one. Also, have y’all seen the sprayed edges on this book? Obsessed.
Love & Other Words by Christina Lauren
Last year, I participated in a bookish White Elephant game for my IRL book club and this was the book that I got for the exchange (and somehow my mom ended up taking the book back home with us). Obviously, this book has been getting a lot of attention and I feel like now would be a good time to finally read it.
The Second Mrs. Astor by Shana Abé
I know that this isn’t the type of book you would regularly see me talk about on my platforms, but this is my IRL book club pick for November and that’s why it’s on the list. I might listen to this on audio (that or just getting it from Kindle Unlimited) and the book seems kind of interesting. Though I’m just hoping it isn’t too sad.
Lore of the Wilds by Analeigh Sbrana
From the moment I first saw the cover, I knew I had to read this book. While it’s been on my shelf for awhile since I got it for my birthday, I haven’t found the right time to sit down and read it. However, I’m going to try my best to get to this book during the month of November.
Motheater by Linda H. Codega
The reason as to how I first heard about this book was because I was recommended this book because I asked about books that actually address life in Appalachia. After a NetGalley request and approval email, I’m hoping to dive into this queer Appalachian fantasy coming out in January 2025.
Funny Story by Emily Henry
Originally, I meant to read and finish this book in late spring, but, unfortunately, I had to put it aside to finish other books I’ve been meaning to get to. However, with this reset, I’m hoping to carve out time to pick this one up again.
Love in Bloom by Lucy Eden
You may have noticed this title from my post last week about some of my most anticipated book releases coming out in November, and I feel that this would be a great book to have on my TBR so I can review it around pub day.
The Christmas Cookie Wars by Eliza Evans
I’ve been sitting on this e-ARC since April and with the upcoming holiday season approaching, now would probably be a good time to dive into this one.
Morbidly Yours by Ivy Fairbanks
Another e-ARC I’ve been sitting on since April, now feels like a good time to dive into this book. I’ve heard lots of good things about this book when it was indie-published, so I’m looking forward to reading this.
Conclusion
I could go on and on about all the other books I want to read from my shelves that I could put on my TBR, but these 10 books are the ones I’m most hoping to get to in this upcoming month. Additionally, there are some leftovers from my October TBR that I would like to get to, but I’ll fit them in whenever I feel up to it.
Will I get to all of the books I would like to read in November? Maybe.
Is there a chance I’ll end up reading books that weren’t on this initial TBR list? Probably.
Nevertheless, I am using November to go with the flow and have the freedom to read what I want to read without being under the constant time crunch of competitive readathons/reading challenges.
OOh, the Tempest of Tea has been on my TBR for a while!!
