December can be a little bit of a weird time in terms of publishing and new book releases. With most of the 2024 frontlist out into the world, several can find themselves looking towards the shiny new releases waiting for them in 2025 or highlighting their favorite books that were published in 2024 or even just simply trying to figure out what book to get for the readers in their lives.
That doesn’t mean there’s no books being published this upcoming month. Quite a bit of books have been saved for last (but not the least) that are coming out in December and here’s some highlights on what to keep your eyes out for.

You wouldn’t necessarily think that gothic horror novels would release in December, but this book here does just that. Combining historical fiction and horror, this dark academia story focuses on a young medical student being unknowingly lured into an illegal body snatching operation in 19th century Scotland.
What It’s Like in Words by Eliza Moss
Genre: Literary Fiction

If you’re a fan of the “sad girl lit” books, I may have found a new title to add to your collection. What It’s Like in Words chronicles a woman in her late twenties as she falls in love with a man definitely not good for her and ends up learning more about herself.
Sister Snake by Amanda Lee Koe
Genre: Fantasy

Two sisters have to figure out how to keep their thousand-year old secret from being discovered in this reimagining of the Chinese folktale “The Legend of the White Snake”.
